This is the cutting edge in Vietnamese sandwich shops. The crowd is young, Vietnamese and attractive -- boys with earrings and hip-hop haircuts, and girls in tight-fitting designer pants. The walls are covered with arty black-and-white photos of rural Vietnam and urban Houston. The sandwiches come in $2.50 and $3.50 sizes. The pâté is made from beef and beef liver, and it nicely complements the barbecued pork. What's more, the bread is exceptionally crunchy, just like a good baguette should be.

Overall:

Wow! I think I found a hidden gem near downtown Houston. This place is very deceptive but I happened to discover it riding my bike and gave it a shot. I had the vermicelli Bbq pork dish and the eggrools rocked! The food comes out fresh and very distinctive compared to all of the other Vietnamese places, particularly on Milam. The place is old but have to say is pretty clean.

If you are looking for something authentic in the way of Vietnamese cuisine-- look no further! Thiem Hung is the real deal; the food is fresh and delicious and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Currently, I am addicted the Pho. The Pho has a wonderful and flavorful aromatic broth, which really good Pho is known for and this is exactly the variety served here. The sandwiches here are famous for a reason- genuine French bread; which is toasted to crispy perfection along with fresh herbs, vegetables, and a variety of meats and tofu to choose from which will make everyone happy. Next trip I plan on trying the crab soup, which looked amazing. Thiem Hung is the kind of place where you look at other peoples’ food coming out and already start planning your next meal and visit; while still completely enjoying what you chose today.

Thiem Hung’s Pho, Vermicelli Bowl, Egg Rolls, and Sandwiches are amazing. It’s alot like the comfort food your grandmother would make with so much time and effort – only Vietnamese Style. I get seated right away and the staff is very friendly. I think for the quality of food and the amount you get, the price is excellent. Best in the City.

Wow! We enjoyed this nook of a restaurant. 4 of us dined there for lunch and had plenty to eat and the bill was $17.00. We had 3 sandwiches, noodles and iced coffee. The sandwiches were generous and delicious: barbeque chicken, tofu and veggies and combination meats. The service was particularly excellent and friendly. It was a good sign that the health inspector was there that day and had take out with her when she left. This a great place for delicious affordable food and a comfortable place to hang out.
