Come on Best of Houston, you can't soley judge the movie theater just because it has friendly service (which any business establishment should have anyway), and “most comfy seats in town,” it does not deserve the title of “Best Movie Theatre.”
I have been to several, if not all most recognizable movie theaters. Lowes is so far from Houston, it should not even be declared as a movie theater in Houston. Located on 59, and almost Dairy Ashford, it is about 20 miles away from downtown. If you are trying to go to the movies from downtown on a Friday night, you will be caught dead in the infamous Houston traffic.
Lowes 18 lacks an actual good arcade spot as well. Their games are worn out and Lowes refuses to add in new pads, and has outdated games. I’ve seen better games at a pizza shop.
Aside from its location, it is rather small. I don’t know about other people, but I enjoy large movie theaters. I’ve seen dollar cinemas which are larger than Lowes 18. Some larger and pretty grand movie theaters that I enjoy are:
- Tinseltown off Beltway 8 and Richmond.
- AMC 30 off of Dunvail and Westeimer.
- Tinseltown off of I-10 and Grand Parkway
- First Colony AMC pretty much across the street from Lowes, next to First Colony mall.
I don’t recommend Tinseltown #1. It is over populated and the food is way too gross (as goes with any movie theater food). My point was that these are larger and size matters when trying to be the best at anything. Castles, towers, buildings, all represent grandeur.
The one I believe that should get best Movie Theater should be Tinseltown off of I-10 near Clay Road. It is a large movie theater, super clean, hidden away from the population so when it gets crowded it’s not as bad as the AMC or other Tinseltown areas. It’s right next to a gym as well, so after working out, and showering up, you can go watch a movie. Its ran by tons of friendly people, (As any business establishment should be anyway), it is ultra clean (cleanest movie theater ever. The employees enjoy themselves, and while still doing their work AT THE SAME TIME, help you out!), its not dominated by one race entirely, and shows that Houston is a tolerant Utopia of people in this world. It has a second floor as well, which Lowes lacks by the way. It also has an awesome arcade spot as well. With many new recent games, a newer version of Dance Dance Revolution (awesome game by the way!), it has one of the best arcades that any theater could possibly have. It is also a hot spot for major businesses to sponsor so they gave away lots of movie tickets every so often. And with the expensive prices of movie foods, you can go to Jack in the Box, right across the highway through the underpass. Jack in the Box, has recently renovated many of its restaurants, into a newer more awesome fancy style of Fast Food. Fortunately, the one across the street from the movies there has already been renovated and is pretty great. Not to mention, it’s no more than 8 miles away from downtown, now that’s actually still in Houston!

different strokes for different folks...my friends and i always head out tho the alamo drafthouse. good food and a movie in one comfortable atmosphere but even that isn\'t what makes them stand apart from the rest of the crowd...it is the always interesting footage that is played before the movie begins. other places use advertising to fill your head with unecessary ad junk but alamo offers tidbits of related material that applies to the movie you are about to watch. it makes the entire movie experience a package deal that i can\'t get anywhere else.

Houston's Best Theater? Try Houston's WORST! Loews 18 at the Fountains is one of the most disgusting theaters in Houston. It smells awful from the bad central air conditioning, nasty carpets, and fryer in the concession stand. The seats and floors are so gross, its like taking your health at risk just sitting down. I refuse to go to this theater although it is only 10 minutes away from me. I always drive the 30 minute route to Alamo Drafthouse for every movie I see (and I go nearly every weekend). Alamo is clean, no screaming babies or annoying teenagers with lasers, they serve good food and drinks, great customer service, it's clean and smells fine, and they have a wonderful preshow entertainment where they show clips of old movies and commercials. Also, they screen older movies sometimes and also host Rocky Horror Picture Show. Alamo Drafthouse is the real winner in Houston.
